A few days ago I went and saw the KRAZY! exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Fuckin. Kill. I'm no anime or comic book nerd or anything but it was bomb. Don't miss the big room with Akira playing on 4 walls and sofas to pass out on (made for meee). After seeing Shaun Tan's "The Arrival" at the exhibit, I went and picked it up at Chapters yesterday. This book is insanely beautiful. I don't wanna call it a graphic novel cuz it isn't like any of them. You gotta "read" it to know what I mean.

One of the most magical, significant, and reassuring movies I've seen in my entire LIFE. If you liked Waking Life, Last Mimzy, The Secret or even Zeitgeist, you might get the big idea in this movie. When people see this movie (even professional film critics), they either get it or they don't. There are a lot of very cynical criticisms about the movie, and just as much praise for it so it is DEFINITELY not for everyone.

Eerie. Ambiguous. Cold. How the hell did they make graphics like these in the 60's?? 2 hours into it is a straight trip. Definately not recommended for anyone who isn't interested in sci-fi, extraterrestial life, evolution, and technology--it'll just bore you (there's only a tiny amount of dialogue). The monolith scenes shook me. I still don't know what to make of this movie... But I wanna buy it. Dug up this awesome poster for the film...

One of my most, most, most favourite films of all time. It's easily a contender for my #1 spot. I've seen this movie about 8 times and it never grows old on me. James Dean's character totally seeps through. Out of his 3 films, I honestly think this is his best. Most people will tell you it's Rebel or Giant but I think with this being his first big break, his innocence completely helps define Cal. It gets me wondering though, how much of his acting was really just him finding a medium to let it out. Out of all my idols, he's definately the most like me. He's a sculptor, painter, photographer, menace, intellect and did everything he felt like doing.

LOVE this movie. Anna Karina is incredibly hot in this one. The whole utopia theme never wears me out. Especially when it's set in the future. You know I'm a sucker for that. Not to mention the film noir effect, French language, grayscale and poetic lines. This movie's bomb.

After reading her bio, I found out she was a beggar (who couldn't read or write) when she was cast and that she was paid only $14 to play the lead. She got some more money later on from film festival awards, and she bought her parents a mud house in a poor part of Kabul. Her dream is to be an actress and one day direct. Right now, she's going to a school run by an Afghan relief agency for children. (IMDB) Best part: the skipping near the end.
